Deschooling Week Two

Hey guys! I like to write my weekly updates in the middle of the week (less busy?); whatever we’ll go with it. This week in deschooling has looked a lot more casual. I’m having issues wanting to buy ALL THE THINGS, but it’s been fun researching projects and resources. Also, a fun fact: I can have a giant pack of construction paper delivered from Amazon to my doorstep in a few hours. This is how the Little House on the Prairie family did it, right??

We’re falling into a bit of a rhythm. Staying up a little later (10:30ish), Cash sleeps solidly until 9 am. I now sleep in until 6:30. I work in the garden, gather daily supplies, and drink all the coffee before work. I have two breaks from work throughout the day, and so far, we’ve used them for various things. We’ve found that art projects fit nicely into a 30-minute block of time. Target runs are tight but also work. Basketball and walks around the neighborhood with Turbo (and sometimes Dagney) are welcome. One day Cash learned how to check the oil in our car.

After work, we usually do another activity, like a science experiment or a game. We played with magnets, read aloud, and experimented with making non-scrambled green eggs with ham. I’m getting used to having little projects and experiments lying around the house. They give me a lot of joy.

I joined Usborne this week, and Cash has been having fun brainstorming marketing ideas for the business. We don’t like to do things the usual way, and he’s been super great at thinking of out-of-the-box, creative ideas. You’ll have to keep your eye out for some of his projects.

During the day, when I’m super busy with work, he’s been practicing his computer skills with Minecraft and studying how to be a big YouTube sensation. He is also still attending his dojo for martial arts, though not every day. Sundays have become our field trip days, and this week we went to an art festival, where he also tried Columbian food for the first time. He is such a joy to be around and so helpful. He told me about 25 times this week how happy he is. I feel like I have my kid back and am so happy about it.
